Be More Pirate – 11 July @ The Printworks Hastings

Pirates didn’t just break the rules, they rewrote them. They didn’t just reject society, they reinvented it.

Have you ever wanted to stand up to the system, break it, to make it better? How can we create radical change within an old-fashioned system in the face of unprecedented change and uncertainty?

To celebrate Pirate Day 2018, you’re invited to join award-winning social entrepreneur Sam Conniff Allende, author and co-founder of Livity, the youth-led creative network and Don’t Panic, to find out what it means to Be More PirateWhat lessons can this provide ambitious start-ups, growing companies and innovative social enterprises? Sam will uncover fascinating stories of Golden Age pirates, drawing parallels between the tactics and teachings of legends like Henry Morgan and Blackbeard with modern disruptors, like Elon Musk or Malala Yousafzai.

Forget everything you thought you knew about pirates. The truth is closer to a bunch of radical, socialist ideologues with huge ideas and ambitions around fairness and equality, and equal say and equal pay.

Why was social insurance first seen on a pirate ship? Why did pirates have gay marriage? How did pirates have huge levels of diversity that few corporations could even get near to today?

Radicalism has a rich history in Hastings, Sussex and right along the creative coast®. It is not just a place where people find inspiration and retreat, it is a place where rebellions are launched over tradition and convention.

Open to all rebels, hustlers, trouble-makers, disruptors, innovators and creatives…
